ABSTRACT

Flavonoids have aroused much interest in research, since they present a great diversity of biological activities observed in vitro, such as: antioxidant effect, modulation of the enzymatic activity and inhibition of cellular proliferation, exerting beneficial effects on the organism, as well as the use of its therapeutic potential. With wide distribution in the plant kingdom represent a class of phenolic compounds that differ in their chemical structure and particular characteristics. The objective of this review was to describe the relevant aspects of flavonoids, reporting the different known groups, the probable mechanisms by which they act, their pharmacological properties and to gain a better understanding of the reported beneficial health effects of these substances. This systematic review consisted of research using scientific databases such as Scopus, Science Direct, PubMed, SciVerse and SciELO, without time limitation. Some pharmacological properties of some flavonoids and their health benefits have been confirmed by previous studies.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the information system deployed in public health network in São Paulo such as his effectiveness in the routines of the work process through the results of search and a review of literature. Methods: Exploratory and descriptive study of "digital paper" that provides the resources to record and store patient data by scanning a handwritten of the health care professional during the assistance. Results: 1,211 health care professionals in three categories, managers, nurses and physicians, were invited and participated in qualitative research and 145 answered. The answers made it to weave the effectiveness of the "digital paper" and the literature review confirmed the growing interest of this tool. Conclusion: The conclusion was that the system offers innovative and advanced technology such as in operation and it's not fully utilized on his high potential, requiring continuous and interactive development to increase its effectiveness.

ABSTRACT

Galls surveys in Paraná are scarce and most sampling efforts in Brazil have still been concentrated on Cerradoregions. In this context, the present study investigated an area of semideciduous forest of Fazenda Monte Alegrein Telêmaco Borba, in order to contribute to the knowledge of galls in the state. Samples were collected on a 300m long track and 5m width, through active search up to two meters high. Fourty-one morphotypes werefound, thirteen of which were identified to the host plant species level, ten according to level of genus, ten tofamily level and eight morphotypes were not identified. Among the identified families, Solanaceae, Asteraceae, Euphorbiaceae, Bignoniaceae, Melastomataceae and Leguminosae-Fabaceae represented the greatest quantityof morphotypes. Most of them occurred on the leaf (39%), 98.6% are entomogenous. 70.7% are glabrous, andas for the shape, most of them were classified as globular (43.9%). As for the way galls grouping on host plants, 46.3% showed up in isolation, and 53.7% in groupings. This study has contributed to enrich the knowledge ongalls in the state of Paraná and for the Atlantic Forest Biome.

ABSTRACT

Little is known about how the surrounding modified matrix affects tree recruitment in fragmented forests. We contrasted effects of two different matrix types, Vismia- and Cecropia-dominated regrowth, on recruitment of pioneer tree species in forest fragments in central Amazonia. Our analyses were based on 22, 1-ha plots in seven experimental forest fragments ranging in size from 1 to 100 ha. By 13 to 17 years after fragmentation, the population density of pioneer trees was significantly higher in plots surrounded by Vismia regrowth than in plots surrounded by Cecropia regrowth, and the species composition and dominance of pioneers differed markedly between the two matrix types. Cecropia sciadophylla was the most abundant pioneer in fragments surrounded by Cecropia regrowth (constituting nearly 50% of all pioneer trees), whereas densities of species in Vismia-surrounded fragments were distributed more evenly. Thus the surrounding matrix had a strong influence on patterns of tree recruitment in Amazonian forest fragments.
